Welcome to the MMOPA events page. This page serves as summary of all PA46-specific training events that are approved and endorsed by the MMOPA Safety Committee. These courses also qualify as “supplemental training” for the Master Aviator Program.

Mark Your Calendars! First-Ever MMOPA Safety Stand Down Scheduled for Oct. 12

Simultaneous events held at 7 locations in the United States

For the first time ever, MMOPA is sponsoring a nationwide Safety Stand Down event.

The event is free to MMOPA members, their pilot guests and those interested in the PA46. Each event will be led by an MMOPA-endorsed CFI who will provide high-quality ground instruction on critical safety information related to operating the PA46.

The Oct. 12 Safety Stand Down will be held at the following locations:

NORTHEAST: Marshfield Municipal Airport-George Harlow Field (KGHG)
MID-ATLANTIC: Cobb County International Airport (KRYY)
SOUTHEAST: Ft. Lauderdale Executive Airport (KFXE)
UPPER MIDWEST: Anoka County–Blaine Airport (KANE)
SOUTH-CENTRAL: Cherokee County Airport (KJSO)
WEST: Albuquerque Double Eagle II Airport (KAEG)
SOUTHWEST: Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport (KMYF)

MMOPA encourages pilots to flight train with the host CFI on the days prior to and after the Safety Stand Down where you will gain a deeper understanding of the unique capabilities, limitations and characteristics of your PA46.

This event will count as a supplemental training event toward your Master Aviator Program qualifications.

Oct 12 Event Complements MMOPA Nationwide Safety Stand Down

Back by popular demand, MMOPA is sponsoring a full-day weather radar seminar with renowned expert Erik Eliel. If you missed him at the 2019 convention, here’s your chance to learn PA46-specific radar knowledge that will make you a safer and more accomplished pilot.

When: Saturday Oct. 12, 2019

Where: Main FBO/Terminal
Spartanburg Downtown Memorial Airport/Simpson Field (KSPA)
Spartanburg, SC
Time: 8:45 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Cost: $350

The comprehensive seminar is ideal for pilots seeking a strong foundation of knowledge, skill, and confidence in their radar systems. Although the core of the seminar is anchored in the tactics, techniques, and limitations of airborne weather radar, this program is a comprehensive convective weather program and includes other critical topics such as human factors, risk management and properly integrating NEXRAD technology into the overall weather strategy.

Lunch is provided and sponsored by SkyTech.

KSPA features a 5,852 ft. runway (05/23) and numerous approaches. It has a large, spacious ramp and a new, city-run FBO/terminal.

About Erik Eliel: Erik is the founder and president of Radar Training International, has been involved in aviation since 1979. His earliest years as a professional aviator were as an Air Force pilot flying the T-38, C-141, and the U-2.

He has been called on by the manufacturers of airborne weather radar systems to consult in the design, operational employment, and evaluation of their systems. His radar- and weather-related articles have been published in the NBAA Journal of Business Aviation and in Business & Commercial Aviation. In addition, his input has been solicited for safety-orientated publications such as the Flight Safety Foundation’s magazine AeroSafety World. Erik has over 13,000 hours of flying time and is currently a line pilot for a major airline, logging more than 800 hours annually. He also maintains his CFI, CFII, and MEI ratings.

Mid-year PA46 Supplemental Training (ground and flight)

  • Only in Vero Beach, FL and exclusively by John Mariani;
  • Life-saving training to improve your skills, knowledge, and judgment;
  • The ground training (8 hours, for all pilots) will be structured in 3 parts: a thorough review of 1 system of the airplane (3 hours, this will be changed every year, and will address all types of airplanes present); a thorough review of operational issues (3 hours, with different subject yearly, addressing structural limitations, system emergencies, weather, accident reviews, etc.) for all types of airplanes present; “Ask John” (2 hours where he answers all questions on any PA46 subject);
  • The flight training with each pilot will be structured as follows: thorough preflight (and review of no-go items), emergencies, review, and emphasis of airplane limitations (and the consequences of exceeding them); instrument procedures (with emphasis on approaches);
  • Qualifies as a supplemental training event for Master Aviator Program.
