Engine Pressure Test – Leak Check

This report describes a very basic procedure for using shop air to pressurize the induction, exhaust, and upper deck lines on a turbocharged engine to look for leaks. Any leak will reduce manifold pressure. Exhaust leaks are also very dangerous. Before adjusting turbocharger systems to increase manifold pressure, it is best practice to ensure that the engine is not trying to over power a leak(s). This procedure is recommended at each annual, and that any and all leaks be corrected before any further repairs are made. The parts that make up the pressure test kit described here can be replicated with common plumbing parts available at home improvement stores.
